Station Review #150: Creek Road (SEPTA)

Creek Road is a station on SEPTA's D2 line. The station is located at the rail line's intersection with Creek Road. Creek Road is essentially a trail, making this one of the few SEPTA stations that's either directly in or next to a major park. It's very likely that this is the least used station on the D2, though I'm still calculating ridership for the line.

Tour

Trolley

Creek Road is a very small station, its platforms barely fit the trolleys themselves.

Bench

Obviously this station isn't accessible since the Kawasaki K-Car trolleys themselves aren't. Even without that though, Creek Road would still be inaccessible.

Stairs

A lengthy staircase is the only way down

The entire northbound platform

The northbound platform is longer than the southbound platform. On the other side of that platform there's a line map. There's supposed to also be a full system map but that's missing. Instead, there's various notices in its place.

Foaming.

Why go to this station?

Swedish log cabin

There's a bus connection .4 miles away to the 107, which goes from 69th Street Transit Center to Lawrence Park at an hourly frequency in what can only be described as a squiggly line that goes through far too many towns. The only reason the bus even connects to Creek Road station is because it has a very silly deviation where it turns from Marshall Avenue south along Burmont, before going back north along Shadeland Avenue back to Marshall Avenue. Frankly, this bus is easier to catch from the Marshall Avenue, Drexel Manor, or Gartettsford stations, and that's not even considering 69th Street itself. If you really want to catch the bus here though, you can at Burmont Avenue and Dennison Street.

Geese along Darby Creek

But that doesn't mean there's nothing here! Creek Road is more of a trail than a road, and a decent trail at that. Going west along the trail, you hit an old Swedish log cabin from the 1640s. You can also walk along a bridge to a much newer (and unfinished) trail built by Upper Darby Township. When this trail is complete, There will be a continuous trail along the Darby Creek, and you will be able to easily walk to Drexline station on the D1.
