Station Review #167: Lombard-South (SEPTA)

Image
Lombard-South is a station on SEPTA's Broad Street Subway. The station is located on Broad Street between Lombard and South Streets. This station is only served by B1 trains.  Tour Stairwell into the station  This is mostly an average B line station. In fact, compared to most stations south of Walnut-Locust, I fail to see any important points where this station is much different at all.  Stairs Unfortunately, this station isn't accessible at all. This is similar to many other B line stations, and is hopefully set to change soon.  One way turnstiles This entrance looks unusable from this angle, but that's only an optical illusion thankfully. Mezzanine All stations between Snyder and Race-Vine station have a mezzanine of some form.  Wall with racks for bikes and benches Turnstiles Platform A lot of the South Philadelphia stations have the same platforms. It's an island ...

Station Review #163: Eastwick (SEPTA)

Image
Eastwick is a station on SEPTA's Airport Line. The station is located along Bartram Avenue near 84th Street in Philadelphia's Eastwick neighborhood. There were plans to rebuild that station and make an Eastwick Transit Center, extending the T5 to it. Considering the capital funds are being siphoned for operational expenses now, it's unknown if this will even happen.   Tour Everything here is made out of wood. At least unlike Highland Avenue or County Line almost everything is on the ground or not all that far from it.  Crossing Shelter and sign Bench Wheelchair ramp Another end It brings me joy to think about how the map is basically zip tied to the fence.  Do you trust that bench? I don't ??????? Bench with small kiss-and-ride I wonder if there's any space here to actually park cars. The actual parking lot is on the other side of the station, and ...

Station Review #158: Richard Allen Lane (SEPTA)

Image
Richard Allen Lane is a SEPTA station on the Chestnut Hill West line located on Allen Lane in the West Mount Airy neighborhood of Northwest Philadelphia.  History Richard Allen Lane was built sometime around the 1880s, though the exact time when during this is unknown. It's likely that the station was built as an infill station. The station was named after the road Allen Lane, which itself was named after local mansion owner William Allen. In 1890 or so, a depot was built at the station to accommodate a new influx of passengers from the at the time newly relocated Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia.    In the 1990s, a project was put underway to rehabilitate this depot and station, the first part being to actually rehabilitate everything, with the second part to make the station accessible. Both of these were completed by 2011. The Allen Lane station was renamed to Richard Allen Lane station in 2017, after Allen Lane was rededicated to R...

Station Review #155: 61st- Pine Loop (SEPTA)

Image
61st & Pine Loop is a bus loop located at 61st Street and Pine Streets in the Cobbs Creek neighborhood of West Philadelphia. The bus loop mainly has service from short turns of SEPTA's route 42 bus.  Tour 61st & Pine is an average SEPTA loop, being one of the ones that got remodeled in the 2000s-2010s. This loop in particular was remodeled from 2016 to 2018.  Bench and shelter Here, there's a lot of amenities: a bench, a shelter, a map (no schedules), a bike rack, an emergency call button, tactile strips, and a bathroom for the drivers.  The map  Rules and an emergency call button The bathroom Bus Connections There is one bus connection at 61st & Pine Loop: 46 - 63rd-Malvern to 58th-Baltimore: This is a vertical bus that acts a lot like a crosstown. It goes along 60th street, essentially linking Angora to Overbrook. This bus comes about once every 10-15 minutes, and is a blo...

Station Review #152: Rising Sun & Olney Loop (SEPTA)

Image
Rising Sun & Olney Loop is a SEPTA loop located at Rising Sun and Olney Avenues in the Olney neighborhood of Philadelphia. This loop was not selected to be remodeled in the 2010s.  Bus Service and Connections There are two buses that go here:  26 - Pulaski-Rittenhouse and Olney Transit Center to Frankford Transit Center: The 26 is normally a crosstown bus linking northwest, north, and northeast Philadelphia. Here though, this loop instead is only used for some peak short turns of the bus.  57 - Whitman Plaza to Rising Sun-Olney/Fern Rock Transit Center: This is a vertical bus that goes all the way across the city, mainly along 3rd/4th Streets, and then American Street, and eventually Front Street and Rising Sun Avenue. Most trips of this route end at this loop, with only some continuing to Fern Rock Transit Center Additionally, there is one bus connection immediately nearby:  18 - Fox Chase to Cedarbrook Plaza: This is another crosstown bu...
