Station Review #103: Ardmore Junction (SEPTA)

Image
Ardmore Junction is a station on SEPTA's M. The station is located on Hathaway Lane and Haverford Road in Ardmore. Or more specifically, the station is located where the M intersects with the Ardmore busway. This station serves both the M and the 103 bus.  History  Ardmore Junction was built in 1907 by the Philadelphia and Western Railroad, an interurban company that tried to make a line from Philadelphia to York but failed. This station was built at the junction of the P&W line and the Ardmore and Llanerch Street Railway. The A&L was later bought by Red Arrow, as was the P&W. Not super long afterwards in 1966, the Ardmore route was bustituted. The ardmore trolley almost wasn't bustituted, all that would have prevented that was if Red Arrow had two more trolleys to use. Red Arrow tried buying two more trolleys, but they had doors on the wrong side.  Much of the original route from Havertown to Ardmore was paved over and turned into a bu...

Station Review #99: DeKalb Street (SEPTA)

Image
King Ma- er I mean DeKalb Street is a station on SEPTA's P&W/route 100/Purple Line/Norristown High Speed Line/M line. The station is located on DeKalb Street in Bridgeport, PA, on the border with King of Prussia, in Upper Merion Township.  This station was originally named DeKalb Street, but its name was changed to King Manor, but in sometime around 2007 or so was renamed again to DeKalb Street.  Tour The station itself Much of the station itself is pretty standard for the M. This also means that the station is inaccessible despite having full level boarding. Making this station accessible would be very simple, there just need to be two new ramps to the station, alas that has not happened yet. What a sad bench Platforms, looking north towards Norristown  The northbound platform The other side of the southbound platform Train Map of the line itself Parking Consid...

Station Review #25: Parkview (SEPTA)

Image
Parkview is a station on SEPTA's Norristown High Speed Line, located in the Parkview neighborhood of Upper Darby. I ended up here by accident. I was trying to get to Township Line Road station, one stop north of this, but a weird predicament led to me having to get off here instead.  What's Even Here?  Very little, actually.  Path To get to the station itsef, you have to take a really long path from Parkview Road, which is very easy to miss, even with the small sign for it.  More Path Path but not accessible Alas, you eventually reach the station, and it's a mess.  Sign near the walkway, graffitied  The platforms are not very good either, as shown below:  Southbound platform They didn't even put a bench there!  Northbound Platform At least the southbound platform has somewhere to stand and be sheltered from the rain.  Bus Connections Bu...
