Station Review #8: Lawndale [PRE RENOVATION] (SEPTA)

Image
Lawndale Station is a SEPTA station on the Fox Chase line, in the Lawncrest neighborhood of Philadelphia. As the portion of the Fox Chase line this station is on is also part of the Philadelphia city line, Lawndale Station is also in Cheltenham, PA. However, Lawndale station cannot be accessed from Cheltenham, PA. Lawndale Station is a Zone 2 station.  History Lawndale station on an old map Lawndale Station has a very vague history. The station itself was established in the 1890s, leading to the neighborhood gaining that name. That much is known. Information gets much murkier when trying to figure out what the station originally looked like. What is known is that the current shelters most likely date ti the 1960s, most likely predating SEPTA's acquisition of the station.  Station Tour The shelter View of the entire station from south to north As you can tell, there is very little at Lawndale Station. Station Review #6: Richmond - Westmoreland Loop (SEPTA)

Richmond - Westmoreland Loop is a bus station in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia, PA. Richmond - Westmoreland Loop serves the bus portion of trolley route 15, as well as bus routes 60 and 73. The loop's existence is integral to the SEPTA network in the River Wards.  Station Tour:  The main section of the Richmond - Westmoreland loop has a structure that looks like this: The main structure of the loop Inside that, there are benches for people to sit on and maps, and those are on the outside as well. Maps at the station can be seen below: Route 15 map Route 60 map Route 73 map, note that it shows Northwood on the map when Northwood is in an area to the northwest not shown on the map at all  Unfortunately, the station also has quite a bit of hostile architecture, the "leaners" all too familiar to those who use SEPTA nowadays. These leaners are completely inaccessible and I honestly despise them, and c

Train Stoppers at Fox Chase Station. Fox Chase station is located in a very central spot in the Fox Chase neighborhood. It's between the intersections of Rhawn and Oxford and Rhawn and Verree, though much closer to the former. There is a platform (with a ramp at the ends for those who are disabled), benches, a main building, canopy, and signs among other things. Behind the station, there's a parking lot. The benches under the canopy Unsurprisingly, this s

Station Review #2: Temple University (SEPTA)

Image
Sign for Temple University Station Temple University Station is a train station in SEPTA's Regional Rail network. Every single SEPTA Regional Rail train line serves this station, and you can tell this from how much larger it is compared to a lot of other train stations in the SEPTA network. This station is directly served by no buses, but is walking distance from the 3, 23, 39, & 47 buses.  Station Tour : The Outside of the Train Station The train station is on a bridge, and the entrance is on Berks Street, which becomes Polett Walk. Walking to the station, there is a fenced off staircase that was once one of the entrances for the station. This is blocked off for a reason, please don't go there.  Walking to the station, you are greeted with the sight shown above. There are turnstiles, common for stations in the Center City Zone.  Closer look at those turnstiles This area looks oddly similar to something youd find on a station
