Station Review #35: Meadowbrook (SEPTA)

Image
Meadowbrook is a station on SEPTA's West Trenton line, located between Rydal and Bethayres stations in the Meadowbrook neighborhood of Abington.  History Old Meadowbrook station building and platform It's unknown when the original Meadowbrook station was built. If I were to wager a guess, I would say sometime around 1890 or so. What is known is that the station was burnt down on April 18th, 1995 at around 5 am. At the time, the now non-existent Meadowbrook post office was in the building as well.  SEPTA built the current station on the old station's site, and it has not changed at all since.  Tour Side of inbound shelter There is very little at Meadowbrook station. The inbound shelter has a bench with a septa Key Card reader next to it. There is also a lot of space for people to stand protected from rain and wind, as well.  The inbound shelter also has these signs in it.  This is the aforementioned key

Station Review #22: Race - Vine (SEPTA)

Image
Race - Vine is a station on SEPTA's Broad Street Line, possibly one of the most overbuilt ones on the line.  Tour Aver age station on the BSL  Race - Vine looks like every other station on the BSL that has express service, at least at the platform. It has everything: benches, trashbins, etc.  Things get more interesting once you get to the mezzanine: The Mezzanine  An Old "Train Arriving" Sign There's no sign for express, and othe other end doesn't have signs at all Yeah... This station has maps and information about nearby buses It's too bad almost all of it is old and outdated And the city bus map, too And the little details are pretty cool too, like the painted on words here:  Once you go outside up the stairs, you see the head houses, or the staircase. Really pretty head house

Station Review #19: Trevose (SEPTA)

Image
Trevose is a station on SEPTA's West Trenton Line. Trevose station is located in Trevose, PA, a small village located between Bensalem and Lower Southampton townships. Despite the station itself being located in Bensalem township on a technicality (the boundary between Bensalem and Lower Southampton Townships in this area is Brownsville road, which is a block away), Trevose is thought of by the locals as the main station for Lower Southampton, especially as most of Trevose is located in Lower Southampton Township.  History Trevose station in the early 1900s The old station house for Trevose station was built somewhere between 1888 and 1893, by the Philadelphia and Reading Company, and remained in service for almost a century afterwards.  A color photo of the Trevose station house from the late 1960s In 1970, Trevose station was torn down and rebuilt, downsizing it.  Station Tour Train departing towards West Trenton at Trevose Station
