Station Review #73: Glenside (SEPTA)

Image
Glenside is a station serving multiple SEPTA Regional Rail lines, located at Easton Road and Glenside Avenue in Glenside, PA.  History Glenside station was built in 1873 by the North Pennsylvania Railroad, one of the few original NPRR station houses to remain to this day. Just six years later, the NPRR was bought by the Philadelphia and Reading Railway, the predecessor to the Reading Railroad. Glenside station was originally named Abington station, and was renamed sometime later to Glenside.  In 2000, a café opened in the station building called Elcy's Café.  Routes that Serve Glenside Station  There are four Regional Rail routes that go to Glenside station, these are:  Airport Line: These trains go to Center City via the SEPTA Main line, before then going to Philadelphia International Airport. Oftentimes, these are combined with Warminister Line trains.  Glenside Combined Line: These trains usually just go from 30th Stre...

Doylestown Station is the secondary terminus for the Lansdale - Doylestown line, and many trains often do not go to this station History Station in 1930 This is the first incarnation of Doylestown station, built in 1871 by the North Penn railroad. This is the only surviving North Penn station on the Doylestown Branch, as all the other stations on the Doylestown Branch got rebuilt by the Reading Railroad or SEPTA. Station Review #20: Torresdale (SEPTA)

Image
Torresdale Station is a station on SEPTA's Trenton line, located in the Torresdale neighborhood of Philadelphia, very close to the Poquessing Creek, the northeastern border of the city.  Station Tour Station building seen from Trenton side Torresdale station is a very insubstantial station. On the Center City side you have a station building, and on the Trenton side, you have a shelter or two.  The shelter on the Trenton side Inside, the building is exactly how you'd expect it to look. There are green benches arranged in rows, bathrooms to the side, an area where you can grab timestables, boards for notices and schedules, a bathroom, and a sales office area.  Bench Timestable Notices and schedule boards There is not much else there. Torresdale Station has two parking lots, but neither are that big in terms of parking lots (you could probably fit the entire plot of land that this station is on within t...

Station Review #11 and ¾: North Broad (SEPTA)

Image
North Broad is a train station on SEPTA's main line. Particularly, it serves the Manayunk - Norristown, and Lansdale - Doylestown lines.  North Broad possibly is also one of the saddest stations I have ever seen.  History Corner of the old station house The station used to be a much grander station on the Reading Railroad. Originally called Huntingdon st station, this station was rebuilt immediately before the Great Depression when passenger amounts heavily dwindled. Then, other things like World War Two and the rise of cars, the subway, and suburbia further dwindled the use of this station. Sometime around the 1960s to 1970s, the original station building was shut down and sold, and the two shelters you see today were built.  Station Tour Station gate The station starts at a gate on Broad Street. Enter the gate, and you immediately are greeted with a long ramp and the SEPTA map.  The map Part of the walkway...
