Station Review #102: Sharon Hill [D2] (SEPTA)


Sharon Hill is the outbound terminal station on SEPTA's D2 line, located on Chester Pike in the center of the streetcar suburb of Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania. 

History

Brillliner at Sharon Hill station

The Philadelphia and West Chester Traction company built a line to the small village of Sharon Hill, PA in March 15th, 1906. Despite the changing of hands of the Sharon Hill Trolley, the station stayed remarkably similar to how it had always been.

Sharon Hill Trolley station is incredibly small, very similar looking to many of the other 102 stations.

Some of the D1 and D2 stations have very fancy shelters from the early 1900s, they look like small buildings, but they really are just shelters at the end of the day.

Besides the fact that this station has the terminus, it is otherwise a completely normal station. There is absolutely nothing of note here whatsoever. Not even a large parking lot despite being right near Chester Pike, aka US route 13.

Bus Connections

A few buses go to the Sharon Hill Trolley station, these include:

• 114: Wawa Station to Darby Transportation Center
• 115: Delaware County Community College or Darby Transportation Center to Philadelphia International Airport

Additionally, this station is near the Sharon Hill station on the Wilmington-Newark Line, which is a regional rail line between Newark, DE and Philadelphia. Unfortunately, this station is far enough away that the walk between the two Sharon Hill stations can result in missed connections if you're unlucky.

There's not much. Chester Pike is an absolute stroad. There is a few West African restaurants and an interesting cheesesteak place nearby the station, but that's about it.

BARTA Transportation Center is a station in Reading, PA. The station is located on Franklin Street, near the old Reading Train station History The old station, now a brewpub and transportation museum There had been passenger rail service at Reading since 1871, when the Wilmington and Northern trains started stopping at a station on front and Penn Streets. Franklin Street station is the one pictured above. The original station at Franklin Street was constructed in 1884, and replaced by the Reading Railroad in 1930. This station was built as an infill for Downtown Reading, since the Reading Outer station was in the middle of the city.  The line changed owners many times until it eventually got to conrail, which allowed SEPTA service on the line. Station Review #78: Cornwells Heights (Amtrak/SEPTA)

Cornwells Heights (pronounced and often misspelled as "Cornwell Heights") is a train station along the Northeast Corridor. The station is located at 700 Station Avenue in Cornwells Heights, PA, a CDP located within Bensalem, PA.  The station is mainly served by SEPTA's Trenton line. Despite this, three trips of Amtrak's Keystone Service stop at the station every day: 640 (7:02 AM), 649 (3:51 PM), and 655 (7:40 PM). Cornwells Heights is currently the least used Amtrak station in the state of Pennsylvania.  From Station Avenue to the edge of the park and ride, this station is about half a mile long.  History Despite how it is today, Cornwells Heights was not nearly as important as it is now for much of its existence.
