Station Review #107: Drexel Manor (SEPTA)


Drexel Manor is a station on SEPTA's D2 line. The station is located near but not at 356 Cheswold Road in the Garettsford neighborhood of Upper Darby, PA. This station is one block away from Garettsford station and Marshall Road station on either side. At this point, Drexel Manor only exists to serve an apartment complex.

One of the only ways you can get to this station is by a path that's between two houses. Much unlike Parkview, there is no lollypop sign announcing what's there, the path just exists.

Nothing is accessible at this station. In all fairness, the D1, D2, and T stations are unable to be made accessible due to having inaccessible vehicles.

The shelter

The station has one small shelter located on the 69th Street bound platform. Shelters of this variety are all along the D1, D2, and 103, and were most likely built while the lines were owned by Red Arrow. At some point, all of the roofs of these types of shelters along the D1 and D2 were replaced.

Bench

This shelter is the exact size for one bench and nothing more.

Bike Rack 

You can park one bike here and nothing more.

The other side of the station only has a trashcan. 

Kiss and ride?

Why does this station have a kiss and ride? You can technically park there, but it's more of a drop off than anything. I'm not sure if this is actually part of the station's property or not. 
 
This station used to have a very small gravel parking lot, but that has since been sold to the nearby apartments and paved. 

Bus Connections

Drexel Manor has no bus connections. The 107 bus passes near this station but does not stop. The 107 connects to Garretsford and Marshall Road, the stations before and after Drexel Manor. If it stopped at Drexel Manor, then the stop spacing would be too close, which really should say something about that section of the D2.

There is an apartment complex next to the station and a few houses. I imagine most of this station's ridership comes from these apartments.

Cornwells Heights (pronounced and often misspelled as "Cornwell Heights") is a train station along the Northeast Corridor. The station is located at 700 Station Avenue in Cornwells Heights, PA, a CDP located within Bensalem, PA.  The station is mainly served by SEPTA's Trenton line. Despite this, three trips of Amtrak's Keystone Service stop at the station every day: 640 (7:02 AM), 649 (3:51 PM), and 655 (7:40 PM). Cornwells Heights is currently the least used Amtrak station in the state of Pennsylvania.  From Station Avenue to the edge of the park and ride, this station is about half a mile long.  History Despite how it is today, Cornwells Heights was not nearly as important as it is now for much of its existence. BARTA Transportation Center is a station in Reading, PA. The station is located on Franklin Street, near the old Reading Train station History The old station, now a brewpub and transportation museum There had been passenger rail service at Reading since 1871, when the Wilmington and Northern trains started stopping at a station on front and Penn Streets. Franklin Street station is the one pictured above. The original station at Franklin Street was constructed in 1884, and replaced by the Reading Railroad in 1930. This station was built as an infill for Downtown Reading, since the Reading Outer station was in the middle of the city.  The line changed owners many times until it eventually got to conrail, which allowed SEPTA service on the line.
