Station Review #35: Meadowbrook (SEPTA)

Meadowbrook is a station on SEPTA's West Trenton line, located between Rydal and Bethayres stations in the Meadowbrook neighborhood of Abington.

History

Old Meadowbrook station building and platform

It's unknown when the original Meadowbrook station was built. If I were to wager a guess, I would say sometime around 1890 or so. What is known is that the station was burnt down on April 18th, 1995 at around 5 am. At the time, the now non-existent Meadowbrook post office was in the building as well.

SEPTA built the current station on the old station's site, and it has not changed at all since.

Tour

Side of inbound shelter

There is very little at Meadowbrook station. The inbound shelter has a bench with a septa Key Card reader next to it. There is also a lot of space for people to stand protected from rain and wind, as well.

The inbound shelter also has these signs in it.

This is the aforementioned key card reader, one of only two at the station, both on the inbound side. If you need to pay using a key card, you *must* go to this side.

Outbound shelter

The outbound shelter is not much different than the inbound shelter. It too, only has a bench inside of it.

There are a few signs at the outbound shelter, but not much else. There is also a tunnel between the two sides of the station, connecting both of these sides.

Parking Lot

The station also has a very small parking lot, which school buses sometimes use to U-turn

Accessibility

Stairs leading to the station

This station has no ramps to it of any form. The platforms are all low level platforms, despite the station itself being above the level of the ground.

Low-level platforms

This is appalling since the station was rebuilt multiple years after ADA was codified into law. This also means that SEPTA metaphorically shot itself in the foot when rebuilding this station the way it did since the station will have to be rebuilt again anyways.

Bus Connections

School bus

Ironically enough, the bus shelter has no bus connections. The nearest bus is the 24, nearly a mile away.

Things to Do in Meadowbrook

Nothing! Meadowbrook is un-walkable and has nothing to walk to in the first place.
