Station Review #38: Doylestown (SEPTA)

Station Sign

Doylestown is a train station located in Doylestown Borough, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Doylestown Station is the secondary terminus for the Lansdale - Doylestown line, and many trains often do not go to this station

History

Station in 1930

This is the first incarnation of Doylestown station, built in 1871 by the North Penn railroad. This is the only surviving North Penn station on the Doylestown Branch, as all the other stations on the Doylestown Branch got rebuilt by the Reading Railroad or SEPTA. Everything except for the cupola is exactly the same.

Full Station Building

Inside the station building

Inside the station building, things are much more cramped. Instead of a large space, as one would expect, the inside of Doylestown Station is very small.

Entrance to the second part of the station

Much of the station building is used for a barber's shop. In the past, this used to be office space used by the North Penn Railroad, and in more recent times, a café.

Map of Doylestown

There are a few things hung on the side wall, including this map of Doylestown

More interesting, however, is this map. This is a map of the Doylestown DART, which loops around Doylestown. Unfortunately, this map has rolled downwards somehow, making it useless. This is very bad, as this is the only map of the bus that is known to exist.

Bus Connections

Speaking of bus routes, Doylestown Station has a few bus connections:

• Doylestown DART: Loops around Doylestown itself, linking to various points in Doylestown Township as well.

• SEPTA Route 55: Long haul bus route that goes between Olney Transportation Center and Cross Keys Place via Cheltenham, Abington, Willow Grove, Horsham, and Warrington. The route basically follows State Route 611 between the two points.
