Station Review #167: Lombard-South (SEPTA)

Lombard-South is a station on SEPTA's Broad Street Subway. The station is located on Broad Street between Lombard and South Streets. This station is only served by B1 trains.

Tour

Stairwell into the station

This is mostly an average B line station. In fact, compared to most stations south of Walnut-Locust, I fail to see any important points where this station is much different at all.

Stairs

Unfortunately, this station isn't accessible at all. This is similar to many other B line stations, and is hopefully set to change soon.

One way turnstiles

This entrance looks unusable from this angle, but that's only an optical illusion thankfully.

Mezzanine

All stations between Snyder and Race-Vine station have a mezzanine of some form.

Platform

A lot of the South Philadelphia stations have the same platforms. It's an island platform with benches, trash bins, and other similar things.

Bus Connections

There are several bus connections at Lombard-South station, these include:

  • 4 - NRG to Fern Rock Transit Center: This bus mostly exists to allow for there to be an accessible form of travel for all of Broad street, as not every B station is accessible. It also has a segment along 9th Street in Hunting Park and Logan.
  • 27 - Broad-Carpenter to Plymouth Meeting Mall: This bus is an express bus that goes along I-76 and Ridge Pike past Roxborough to the Metroplex and Plymouth Meeting Mall
  • 32 - Broad-Carpenter to Ridge-Lyceum: This bus seems to link multiple of the neighborhoods on the eastern side of the Schuylkill together, especially on the west end of North Philadelphia and in Roxborough, linking to Center City along Broad Street. This bus runs on average about once every 20-25 minutes.
  • 40 - 2nd-Lombard to Conshohocken-Monument: This bus runs via Lombard and South Streets among many others, linking Wynnefield, Parkside, University City, and more to the southern end of Center City. The section along South and Lombard Streets is planned to be replaced by a rerouting of the 42 in a few months.

Points of Interest Near Lombard-South Station

There are a lot of stores, restaurants, and more near this area, especially along South Street. In fact there's so much that I'd have trouble listing all of it. To say this area is doing well for transit oriented development is an understatement.
