Station Review #134: Aronimink (SEPTA)
Aronimink is a station along SEPTA's D1 line at its intersection with Burmont Road in the Aronimink neighborhood of Upper Darby, PA. Aronimink has the highest ridership of any SEPTA D1 station outside of the combined section.
Tour
Like every other D1/D2 station, this is inaccessible. It's also generally not good.
The shelter at Aronimink seems slightly fancier, and has old shutters. This is clearly a fancier shelter than many of the other shelters along the D1/D2. It also has bike racks.
Bench
This map clearly hasn't been updated since 2014. The D1/D2 both seem to have many issues with outdated signage, including maps.
Parking???
Parking indeed.
Much unlike most other D1 stations, Aronimink has parking for some reason. Do not let this decieve you though, this parking lot is not for the station. Instead, it belongs to the U-Haul branch immediately next door.
Whats Nearby?
Waverly theatre
There is a lot nearby Aronimink station. Stores, restaurants, apartments. Aronimink is one of the areas along the D1 that has a downtown of its own. A core part of this is the Waverly Theatre, or at least it's remains. Right now, the theatre is a pub, which is much better than how it had been used multiple times in the past.
Additionally, there is a bus connection nearby:
111 - Chadds Ford to 69th Street Transit Center: This bus runs along almost the entirety of route 1 in Delaware County, including an express segment where it skips past Media. I believe the original idea for this bus was that it was a extension of the 1 bus into Delaware County. This is unsurprising considering the 1 bus used to run all the way to 69th Street Transit Center from Parx Casino as well. This bus runs about half hourly to hourly at least to Lima, becoming more infrequent further west.
