Station Review #123: Tulpehocken (SEPTA)
Tulpehocken is a station on SEPTA's Chestnut Hill West line. The station is located at Tulpehocken Avenue near Wayne Avenue in the Blue Bell Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia.
Tour
Tulpehocken feels like a lot of the other stations on the Chestnut Hill West Branch. As is the norm here, nothing is accessible.
The depot has since fallen into disrepair and disuse.
The outbound platform
That's most of the outbound platform right there.
Some of the Chestnut Hill West stations have a shelter that only has a map and schedules inside. No bench though, everyone can just sit in the rain instead!
Dingy, as per usual with these tunnels
This place seems a lot more sad from this angle. The oasis of parking along with the buildings around the station here can make it a little hard to find your way in and out of this station.
Bus Connections
- 53 - Wayne-Carpenter to Richmond-Westmoreland Loop: This bus is a crosstown bus that links West Mount Airy to Port Richmond via Juniata Park and Hunting Park. This bus is one of the few buses that was extended during the septa cuts of August 2024
- 65 - Germantown-Chelten to 69th Street Transit Center: This is a crosstown bus that goes between Germantown and 69th Street via City Line Avenue (US Route 1). This bus also connects to Wissahickon/Wissahickon Transit Center, Bala station, Overbrook station, and the 63rd-Malvern Loop as well.
Points of Interest near Tulpehocken Station
There's not much near Tulpehocken station in terms of stores, and most development near this station is residential. There are multiple apartments here, some over a dozen stories tall, along with a lot of non-apartment housing of mixed densities. On top of that, there's also a large park nearby named Clifford Park. Blue Bell Park and the rest of the Wissahickon park system isn't very far away either.
The area around Tulpehocken station is home to the Tulpehocken Station Historic District, as well, with the depot itself part of said district.
