Station Review #122: Martin State Airport (MARC)

Image
Martin State Airport is a station located at Eastern Avenue and White Marsh Boulevard in Middle River, Maryland, near the Martin State Airport, its namesake.  History This station was built in 1991 along with the rest of the extension from Baltimore Penn to Perryville. At some point between 2016 and 2019, the station was rebuilt with new platforms, shelters, and a repainted depot. Tour Martin State Airport is an interesting station to say the least. The quality of the station is incredibly exaggerated, and its less awful than one would expect. That isn't to say it's any good. In order to get to the actual platforms, you need to cross a ditch Closeup on the ditch I'm fairly certain this is a stormwater ditch of some form, since I could see no water in it when i visited The tracks The outbound "platform"  In order to bound an outbound train, you have to walk onto the Northeast Corridor. Station Review #121: Croydon (SEPTA)

Image
Croydon is a station on the Trenton Line. The station is located at Bristol Pike and Cedar Avenue in Croydon, PA. Croydon is a census designated place in Bristol Township, located in south central Bucks County.  History Croydon station has a far longer and more storied history than one would expect, going back to 1834 with the opening of the Philadelphia and Trenton Railroad. Originally, the station was about 1000 feet or so away from the site of the current station. At the time, the station was cakled Schenck station, named after Dr. Joseph H. Schenck, who owned a large mansion nearby at the time. Schencks was a rich man, and there is a possibility that he had a railway branch off of the Philadelphia and Trenton Railroad. No one knows when exactly the station was renamed, or rebuilt the first time. All that is known is this it was after 1885.  Croydon station today is virtually unrecognizable from the Croydon station of the past. The old station house ...

Station Review #120: Wayne (SEPTA)

Image
Wayne is a station on SEPTA's Paoli-Thorndale line. The station is located at Station Road and Wayne Avenue in Wayne, PA. Wayne is a village located within Radnor Township, along Lancaster Avenue. Many people unfamiliar with the area tend to get Wayne and Wayne Junction stations mixed up. These are two different stations, though it is possible to get a one seat ride between both some times of the day.  Tour Comet car #2401, part of a Bomber train   Wayne is fully accessible, one of the best stations on the Paoli-Thorndale line for this reason alone .   Outbound platform Original platforms   Wayne is one of those stations where   it clearly was rebuilt, but the old station was historically significant enough to the town, so it remained.  Canopy Old outbound platform next to the new one   This two platform design is cool because it gives two extra emergency platforms, essential...
