Station Review #39: Asbury Park (NJT)
Asbury Park is a station on NJT's North Jersey Coast Line, located just outside of downtown Asbury Park, New Jersey.
Tour
The day I went to Asbury Park station, the main building was under construction. Fortunately, the rest of the station still exists and is usable.
But just because the station building was under construction, doesn't mean the entire station is unusable. You can still use the platforms, which most people at this station did.
One very odd thing about the station is that the platforms are not directly across from each other, rather the southbound platform being further north than the northbound platform.
The platforms have about everything you'd expect from them, from benches to maps and schedules.
Near the northbound platform, there are stairs to a tunnel that goes to the closed station building.
The shelter for the stairwell also has this on top, a sign welcoming you to Asbury Park.
Bus Connections
Asbury Park station has five bus routes that go to it:
• 317 - Asbury Park to Philadelphia via Lakewood, Mount Holly, and Camden
• 830 - Asbury Park to Point Pleasant Beach
• 832 - Asbury Park to Brookdale Community College
• 836 - Asbury Park to West Freehold
• 837 - Seaview Square to Long Branch station via Asbury Park
There also used to be a bus called the Shore EZ-Ride that went in a loop connecting Asbury Park to Ocean Grove and Bradley Beach. This has not existed for a few years, however.
Points of Interest in Asbury Park
• The beach - Asbury Park is a beach town, what do you expect?
• The boardwalk - again, what did you expect? There are a ton of cool stores and restaurants along or near the Asbury Park boardwalk! Too many to list, even!
• Downtown Asbury Park - There are even more stores here, and it's very walkable
