Station Review #151: Glen Rock-Boro Hall (NJT)

Glen Rock-Boro Hall is a station on NJT's Bergen County Line. Two round trips a day of the Port Jervis Line also serve this station. Glen Rock-Boro Hall is located at Harding Plaza in Glen Rock, New Jersey.

History

When this station was built in 1881 with the rest of the Bergen County Railroad, it was originally called Paramus. Unfortunately for Bergen County and much of the rest of New Jersey, Boroughitis happened between 1890 and 1930. This process caused this station to become Glen Rock-Boro Hall in 1891.

Not much else is known. It's likely that this is not the original station building, and that it was replaced sometime after the 1960s. The waiting room closed at some point afterwards as well.

Tour

Glen Rock-Boro Hall is an average NJT station that's not along the Northeast Corridor. A lot of them are like this

Old depot?

Bench

Southbound platform and depot

Shelter with basic amenities

Indoor shelter

These types of shelters with no bathroom or ticket office are reminiscent of Metra stations, where there are a lot of these.

More shelter

The rest of the southbound platform

At the end of the platform on both sides is a mini high, meaning this station is accessible.

Bench
While doable, this station is a little bit annoying to get in and out of. There's a staircase past the mini high platforms, but good luck noticing that.

Transit Connections

Glen Rock-Boro Hall has multiple connections, these include:

  • Main Line: These trains go from Hoboken to Suffern via Passaic County. You can get on a Main Line train at Glen Rock-Main Line station
  • 164 - Midland Park-Fairlawn-New York: This bus goes from Midland Park through Glen Rock and much of the rest of the towns along the Bergen County Line to Port Authority Bus Terminal.
  • 165 - Westwood-New York: This bus goes from Port Authority Bus Terminal to Westwood, but in a very confusing manner that I don't fully understand myself.
  • 746 - Ridgewood-Paterson: This bus goes from Ridgewood Bus Terminal to Paterson Bus Terminal via Wayne and Haledon. There is a variant that instead of going to Ridgewood goes to Pompton Lakes.

Downtown Glen Rock

The borough hall and some houses are nearby, as well as a park and the eastern end of downtown Glen Rock. There's not much here. The borough hall is directly next door, as well.
