Station Review #136: Miquon (SEPTA)



Miquon is a station on SEPTA's Manayunk-Norristown Line. The station is located at River and Manor Roads in the village of Miquon, PA, itself located within Whitemarsh Township, PA. Four Manaynk-Norristown Line trains a day end at Miquon, and the station is often used as a turnback point in various situations, having more operational importance than the average station along the line. 

History



Miquon station seems to have been built as an infill station sometime around 1880, and named Lafayette. At some point, a shelter was added. In 1921, the station was renamed to Miquon. Besides things like signal upgrades, not much has changed since then.

One of Miquon's only real amenities is parking, but it's not even the most well suited for this compared to other stations along the line.

You can go inside the outbound depot. It's completely unstaffed and has no bathroom, but has protected benches and is heated. This feels more like a Metra station than a SEPTA station. There is no other SEPTA station like this. 

Points of Interest near Miquon station


There's River Park I & II (a small office park), AIM Academy, and that's entirely it. AIM Academy is a prep school for people with language based learning disabilities (eg Dyslexia), and a lot of people in the area go to it. Miquon is unique for the Manayunk-Norristown Line in how strikingly rural it is, especially compared to the areas around it.

Cornwells Heights (pronounced and often misspelled as "Cornwell Heights") is a train station along the Northeast Corridor. BARTA Transportation Center is a station in Reading, PA. The station is located on Franklin Street, near the old Reading Train station History The old station, now a brewpub and transportation museum There had been passenger rail service at Reading since 1871, when the Wilmington and Northern trains started stopping at a station on front and Penn Streets. Franklin Street station is the one pictured above. The original station at Franklin Street was constructed in 1884, and replaced by the Reading Railroad in 1930. This station was built as an infill for Downtown Reading, since the Reading Outer station was in the middle of the city.  The line changed owners many times until it eventually got to conrail, which allowed SEPTA service on the line. Glenside is a station serving multiple SEPTA Regional Rail lines, located at Easton Road and Glenside Avenue in Glenside, PA.  History Glenside station was built in 1873 by the North Pennsylvania Railroad, one of the few original NPRR station houses to remain to this day. Just six years later, the NPRR was bought by the Philadelphia and Reading Railway, the predecessor to the Reading Railroad.
