Station Review #105: Rosemont (SEPTA)

Rosemont is a station on SEPTA's Paoli - Thorndale line, located on Airdale Road in Rosemont, PA. Rosemont, PA itself is a CDP almost entirely within Lower Merion Township in Montgomery County.

History

Old postcard of the old station building

In 1863, the Pennsylvania Railroad built a station in Lower Merion Township. The station was built on the property of Peter Pechin, and named after his manor Rosemont

In 1892 the station was rebuilt. It was rebuilt again in 1983 to facilitate renting out most of the depot building to a real estate broker.

Tour

As mentioned above, the majority of the station is rented by a real estate office.

A train from the southbound platform

As one can easily tell, Rosemont station is not accessible at all whatsoever.

The waiting room

The waiting room at Rosemont is small, barely having enough space for a couple of passengers to wait in the mornings.

Shelf

It's pathetic.

Bridge over Airdale road

In order to get from one side of the station to the other, you need to cross under this bridge. At least there is sidewalk to do so.

Shed near the parking lot

There is a parking lot next to the station. I'm not sure what this shed next to it is for.

Transit Connections

Like many other stations along the Paoli-Thorndale line south of Radnor, there are two buses and one metro line that stop nearby:

M: Norristown Transit Center to 69th Street Transit Center. The stop here is at Garrett Hill station. It's a few blocks away.

105: Rosemont to 69th Street Transit Center. This stops very close to the station and at Lancaster Pike.

106: Paoli to 69th Street Transit Center. This stops at Lancaster Pike.

Points of Interest in Rosemont

Downtown Rosemont

There's not much near Rosemont station. There's Austin Memorial Park right next to the station, as well as Rosemont College itself. The development along Lancaster Pike going through the village is very suburban otherwise.
