Station Review #58: Southampton Rd (SEPTA)


Southampton is a bus stop on the SEPTA Boulevard Direct bus line, located at Roosevelt Boulevard and Southampton Road in the Byberry neighborhood of Philadelphia.

This is basically a standard bus stop with "Southampton" plastered on it. There is very little that distinguishes this from every other bus stop ever.

On the other side of Roosevelt Boulevard, it's the exact same story, except with more areas to walk to and from.

At Southampton Road, you can connect to these routes:

1: 54th-City to Parx Casino
14: Frankford Transportation Center to Neshaminy or Oxford Valley Malls
84: Frankford Transportation Center to Philadelphia Mills or Bustleton-County Line via State Road and Southampton Road

Points of Interest in Byberry

There are a couple interesting things in Byberry to visit, these include:

The remains of Byberry Hospital: These are scattered about, a few buildings and a bridge among other things. These are incredibly unsettling. 

Benjamin Rush State Park: A state park that is mostly just empty fields. 

Lighthouse Field: This is just a field where sports games happen sometimes

The Army Recruiter Place nearby: As it says on the tin. 

Community College of Philadelphia Northeast Campus: This is in a very weird and isolated spot that is incredibly annoying to get to with public transit. 

Byberry East Industrial Park: This is a large business and industrial park along Southampton Road that takes up most of the neighborhood of Byberry. 

A lack of sidewalks makes it incredibly hard to get anywhere from this stop.

West Ardmore is a temporary station on Amtrak's Keystone Corridor, which takes service from the Keystone Service and SEPTA's Paoli - Thorndale Line. Despite this, the station is more like a SEPTA station that some Amtrak trains stop at than an Amtrak station. West Ardmore station is located on the Montgomery County side of Ardmore, PA. Station Review #23: Tacony (SEPTA)

Tacony Station is a train station on SEPTA's Trenton Line, located in the Tacony neighborhood of Lower Northeast Philadelphia. The station is located next to Disston Park, while also being sandwiched next to a highway as well. History Old picture of the old Tacony Station building  Tacony station has a long and storied history. At first, Tacony sprung up as a town on the Delaware river, fueled by its importance to transportation in the area. You see, Tacony station existed as the end of the line for the southbound version of the Philadelphia and Trenton Railroad, which was banned from going towards Kensington and ultimately Philadelphia. Thus, they created a ferry wharf very close to the station for ferries to Walnut Street dock in Philadelphia. This arrangement existed for about 40-50 years. Station Review #43: Noble (SEPTA)

Noble is a station on SEPTA's West Trenton line, located in the small village of Noble, Pennsylvania, itself located in Abington Township, Pennsylvania.  History Photo of Noble immediately after being built Noble was built by the North Penn Railroad in 1889. Immediately after being built, the station was inaugurated by US President Benjamin Harrison.  In 1901, the Reading Railroad took over the West Trenton Line and tore down many of North Penn's stations, building new ones based on the standard Reading Railroad station template.  The main station house was used as a waiting room until 2001 or so, and now is abandoned. Tour Silverliner IV at the northbound platform of Noble Station Despite the fact that Noble station seems the type of station to have a lot going on, that could not be further from the truth.  Silverliner V at Noble Station On the southbound end of the station is the station house, which currently sits disused.
