Station Review #15: Roslyn (SEPTA)

Sign

Roslyn is a SEPTA train station located in Roslyn, Abington, PA, on the Warminister Line. The station is located along Easton Road, right outside a railroad crossing, and the intersection of Easton road and Susquehanna road.

Tour of a Greenhouse

Not dated at all!

While going down a hill on Easton Road, you spot this building. Immediately upon looking at it, the look of the building itself intrigues you. Depending on who you are, and your tastes, you think this building is one of two things, beautiful or hideous. It's not in the middle, this building is very divisive.

The station is on the side of a large hill off of Susquehanna road, a road that is fairly scenic due to the sheer amount of hills on it. You can tell this just based on the giant hill behind the station (and the Giant store as well).

The view behind the station

Going to the station itself from Easton Road, you see a wooden staircase, like the one somewhere like Philmont station. Unfortunately, this staircase is blocked off with sheets of wood probably due to it not being structurally sound.

No staircase for you

Instead, you have to walk around, down the hill, and then to the station through the parking lot. And when you get there, look at the station before you go to it because you otherwise wouldn't realize it was a station in the first place

The station

The station itself has two parts to it, the building and the canopy. The building is like every other SEPTA train station that isn't 30th, Suburban, Jefferson, Trenton, Wilmington, or Jenkintown/Wyncote that has an indoors portion. The building is a commuter only operation, and outside of the monday to friday morning commute may as well be ignored.

The canopy

The canopy has two benches in the center, placed on opposite sides of eachother. In the center of this bench arrangement, there is two signs, both placed to show the history of the train station, a history this current station shows absolutely none of in any other meaningful way.

I hope you can read that

Ooh! A map!

Going closer to the building itself, there is something in the window that you spot. It mentions the shuttle bus picking up people nearby. Searching online for information about this, you find absolutely nothing. Maybe the sign is referring to the shuttle bus that runs when the Warminister Line itself isn't running? Possibly not, since the rail shuttle is much further away.

Aforementioned sign

Speaking of the building, it's architecturally more of the same. It looks reminiscent of a greenhouse rather than a train station. To make matters worse, its made to very obviously show that this station is not mesnt to be viewed from the back. In fact, look at this comparison for proof:

The full canopy and building

The back of the building

See the difference? This just goes to show how abnormal this station is.

Inside, the station is still just as abnormal. Rather than normal benches, this station instead has stools

Yeah...

Aforementioned Warminister line train. Fun fact, but the train tracks here at this station are banked due to the hill directly next to it

Bus Connections
There is one bus that connects to Roslyn station, that being SEPTA's 22 bus, which to an extent paralells the Warminister line and gives the towns along it local bus service, while linking to Olney Transportation Center and Cedarbrook Plaza.

Points of Interest near Roslyn station

Susquehanna Road, near the station

There is the town of Roslyn itself, situated along Easton Road nearby, which has some stores and restaurants, and very nice views. Otherwise, not much else.

This place could be so much worse, but does have some issues. This is definitely not the worst I've seen, far from it. However, it's also far from the best I've seen as well. Very middle of the road.
