Station Review #45: Atlantic City (NJT)

Image
Atlantic City is the eastern terminus station of NJT's Atlantic City line, located in Atlantic City, New Jersey.  History The old Atlantic City Union Station  Atlantic City used to originally have competing lines from the Reading and Pennsylvania railroads for a long while. This changed in the 1930s, though and both merged their South Jersey assets to form the PRSL. In 1934, Atlantic City Union Station was built, and with the building of this station was the creation of an icon. It was located at Arctic and Arkansas avenues, and was incredibly important for the well-being of the city. Unfortunately, Atlantic City Union Station lost train service in 1964, which had been removed in the creation of the Atlantic City Expressway. Atlantic City Union Station kept being used for bus service until 1997 when it was completely torn down and replaced by an outlet mall called The Walk. A new bus station was built nearby at Atlantic Avenue and Ohio Avenue called Atlantic

Station Review #39: Asbury Park (NJT)

Image
Asbury Park is a station on NJT's North Jersey Coast Line, located just outside of downtown Asbury Park, New Jersey.  Tour NJCL train at Asbury Park station The day I went to Asbury Park station, the main building was under construction. Fortunately, the rest of the station still exists and is usable.  Construction notice Inside the station building Building from afar Yet another construction notice But just because the station building was under construction, doesn't mean the entire station is unusable. You can still use the platforms, which most people at this station did.  Southern Platform One very odd thing about the station is that the platforms are not directly across from each other, rather the southbound platform being further north than the northbound platform.  The platforms have about everything you'd expect from them, from benches to maps and schedules.

Station Review #29: Paterson (NJT)

Image
Paterson is a NJT commuter rail station in Paterson, the county seat of Passaic County, NJ. Paterson station is on the NJT Main Line, between Clifton and Hawthorne stations.  MNRR's Port Jervis line trains pass through the station as well, but do not stop there Tour/Gallery The station building Paterson is a standard elevated station, much like a station like Wilmington . Much unlike Wilmington, however, this station does not have a large waiting room, nor does it have shops, nor is it very ornate. This station has stairs to the platform, and elevators. Maps on the bottom floor Random plaque Old bus stop Upstairs on the platform, there are a lot more basic amenities, like signs, shelters, more maps, etc. There is also an elevator, as well.  Stairs More stairs Platforms Bench and sign Schedule and Shelter Steel girders underneath Train Bus C
