Station Review #19: Trevose (SEPTA)

Image
Trevose is a station on SEPTA's West Trenton Line. Trevose station is located in Trevose, PA, a small village located between Bensalem and Lower Southampton townships. Despite the station itself being located in Bensalem township on a technicality (the boundary between Bensalem and Lower Southampton Townships in this area is Brownsville road, which is a block away), Trevose is thought of by the locals as the main station for Lower Southampton, especially as most of Trevose is located in Lower Southampton Township.  History Trevose station in the early 1900s The old station house for Trevose station was built somewhere between 1888 and 1893, by the Philadelphia and Reading Company, and remained in service for almost a century afterwards.  A color photo of the Trevose station house from the late 1960s In 1970, Trevose station was torn down and rebuilt, downsizing it.  Station Tour Train departing towards West Trenton at Trevose Station

Station Review #18: Coatesville (AMTRAK) (Old)

Image
Coatesville (COT) is an Amtrak train station located in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, with service from Amtrak's Keystone Service line. Coatesville is a real gem, one of the best stati- oh why should I sugarcoat the truth or lie? Coatesville is absolutely horrible . This is possibly one of the worst stations I have ever reviewed. It's up there with beauties such as Eddington and North Broad .  History Postcard from 1920 But first, a history lesson. Coatesville started out in the 1830s, a station on the Philadelphia and Columbia Railroad, which later became the PRR. This was on the line called the "Main Line" by the PRR. The building was built in 1868, and now lays disused. The history of this station goes on the same as the line itself, for a long while. Even as the car became more popular, COT still was doing well as a station as Coatesville as a whole was a city anchored on steel, something that employed the city well since the late 1700s. Ove

Station Review #17: Thorndale (SEPTA)

Image
Thorndale is a station on SEPTA's Paoli/Thorndale line, in fact it's the western terminus. The station is located along US-30 in the village of Thorndale, itself in Caln Township, PA.  Tour Train at Thorndale Thorndale station is on a hill, meaning that there are stairs and a ramp to it, shown below.  Both sides look about the same, they both have a ramp, and stairs and both have the same exact station shelters. Side of one of the station buildings On the inside of each shelter, there are three benches, and not much else.  Outside the shelters, there are also benches, as shown below Behind that, there is a giant parking sea for the station. I doubt you need this much parking for a station as small as this in a town as small as Thorndale. Why is there this much parking? This amount is expected for a large plaza, not for a train station!  Seriously? Gallery  Station itself
